Challenge Guidelines
1. Get a basic idea for your OC.
This can be anything as generic as a name to anything as detailed as a fully written character. What's their name? Do you have a personality type in mind? Where are they from?2. Only use Pokemon your OC would use.
Based on your character's personality, likes, dislikes, etc. which Pokemon would they use on their team? How did they become partners?
It's also helpful to think about any gimmicks your character may have. Do they only use Pokemon of a specific color? Do they have a naming convention? You are limited to using Pokemon that make sense or that you can explain!3. Every journey needs a challenge!
(Recommended, not required if you wish to play alone.)Before you are able to progress past certain checkpoints in the game, you will want to participate in a Rival Battle!A Rival Battle is where you challenge another player to a battle.
Both players must use the same amount of Pokemon ( if one player only has two Pokemon, both players are limited to two ).
It is recommended that both players are at similar checkpoints to keep the battles as fair as possible. If playing a game that no longer has online capability, we suggest using Pokemon Showdown!Rival Battles take place in the following locations:
- After the 1st Gym
- After the 3rd Gym
- After the 5th Gym
- After the 7th Gym
- After defeating the ChampionIt is not required that you win this battle to progress!
These battles are meant as a stage for your characters to test their strength against each other. What did your character learn from this experience?
Optional Rules
1. Ooh, Shiny!
If you find a Shiny Pokemon, you MUST catch it to the best of your ability.
If caught, it will be permanently on your team.
Try coming up with a reason why your character uses this Pokemon!2. Starter Swap!
Sometimes your starter can say a lot about your character. If the starter Pokemon in your chosen game does not appeal to your character, you may swap out your starter with a different Pokemon. You can bring this Pokemon in from another game, generate it using a cheat device, etc.(If using a cheat device, it is very helpful if your Pokemon is created to be as legal as possible! Some games will not allow you to battle with illegal Pokemon.)
Challenge Info
The Character Challenge was created due to a group of friends trying to find other fun ways to play Pokemon games! These runs are not to be taken as seriously as other challenge runs-- We like to find ways to focus our creative energies on creating characters, writing stories, making artwork, and sharing these ideas with others!Ideally, we would like to use these challenges to create a community of creative minds and like-minded people.
